The band that eventually became known as Pink Floyd began by performing American R&B songs. When a guy by the name of Syd Barrett joined the group in 1965, he began writing most of their music and made sure to incorporate their sound with the psychedelic beats that were out in the sixties. Their original members included Syd Barrett on guitar and vocals, Roger Waters on bass, guitar, and vocals, Bob Klose on guitar, Rick Wright on keyboards and wind instruments, and Nick Mason on drums. After two years the band had to replace Barrett because he was unstable due to his drug use, so they picked up David Gilmore in 1968. They never missed a beat without their old band mate, and they continued to wow their audiences with classical and jazz influences incorporated in their music. This group from Cambridge, England soared over to the United States and excelled in the music industry.
